Join us Saturday July 23, 6-9pm,  for a fundraising event for Dallas-based artist Antonio Lechuga, a recent victim of gun violence.

#SupportForAntonioLechugaOn July 17th, the Love Texas Art staff was informed that artist Antonio Lechuga of the current exhibition Fences was a victim of senseless gun violence and was shot twice while jogging on the evening of Friday, July 15 in Dallas. He was taken to the hospital and is currently receiving care for his injuries. We are very thankful that he is alive, and our prayers are with him and his family at this time.After undergoing two surgeries, we are grateful that the prognosis is good and he is expected to heal physically from his injuries. However, in the weeks and months to come he will need our support in other ways, specifically financially. With his family, we invite you to a fundraiser and support event for Antonio on Saturday, July 23, from 6-9pm at Love Texas Art. During the fundraiser Love Texas Art resident artist, Bernardo Vallarino, has offered to lead visitors in creating orange ribbons as a symbol to wear to bring awareness to victims of gun violence, which heartbreakingly now includes Antonio Lechuga. The ribbons will be made from cobija material in honor of Antonio and his artwork.If you cannot attend the event, but still want to donate to support Antonio, please visit his GoFundMe page: <a href="https://gofund.me/f68b9e8f" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://gofund.me/</a>------About 8 years ago, I met Antonio “Tony” when he dropped off artwork at the Art7 Satellite Gallery of the Fort Worth Community Art Center (now @artsfortworth). Since then, we have worked together several times, and I have had the opportunity to get to know his kindness and intentionality. I have watched him grow as he remains dedicated to his work and has become a leader in the art community. Last year I was thrilled to see his display of sculptural work at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center. The work addresses border issues in a bold, tactile, poetic, and approachable way. As soon as the opportunity arose, the gallery (Love Texas Art) asked him if he felt comfortable installing a solo exhibition of his “Fences” works. We are honored that he said yes, and that we have been able to bring his solo exhibition of paintings and sculptural works, “Fences” to the public.His exhibtion, Fences, was planned to close on Sunday, July 17.
