SUPing Awesome

SUPing Awesome! is an inaugural presentation/ panel discussion with some of the legends of stand up paddleboarding. Those pushing the boundaries and breaking the concepts of what you can do on a SUP. Grab a beer and a seat. It’s 90 minutes of inspiration. There will be time for both presentation and Q&A.

SPEAKERS INCLUDE:

Karl Kruger: It can be sailing, climbing ice, skiing or SUPing Karl lives adventure. In 2017 Karl become the first person to ever complete the Race to Alaska on a stand up paddleboard. He holds the world record for longest race completed by a SUP. His next project is to travel the Northwest Passage on his paddleboard.

Josh Collins: Josh is a Special Forces veteran who discovered stand up paddling while searching for effective treatment of TBI (traumatic brain injury). SUPing changed his life, and he began campaigning to raise awareness of TBI and its treatment. As part of that, he SUPed from Texas to New York, 3500 miles, and this year is vying to be the 2nd ever SUP to complete the Race to Alaska.

Carmen Merkel: Carmen is one of a handful of people to ever complete the Yukon River Quest on a stand up paddleboard. After over a decade of mountaineering, ski touring and multi-pitch rock climbing, Carmen took to the sea in a SUP to explore the rugged British Columbia coastline, most recently to the remote Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island. Her five years of SUP racing have yielded her consistent finishes in 5th or better place.

Dean Burke: As well as presenting, Dean will be moderating. He is a competitive SUP paddler, completed the 40 mile Stage 1 of R2AK in 2017. He is the only person to have ever crossed the Strait of Juan de Fuca on a stock board. Dean has an uncanny knack in connecting people to the sea through experiences and storytelling and has found a relationship with Stand up Paddling that crosses its claim as a sport and has become a culture of living.
