Supervising Across Generations: Different Needs, Same Standards

Supervising Across Generations: Different Needs, Same Standards

Online event
Overview

Earn board-approved supervision, ethics, and cultural competence CEUs while advancing ethical, high-quality supervision and client care.

The modern mental health landscape is experiencing a profound demographic shift, bringing baby boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z into the same clinical workspace. Clinical supervisors are increasingly tasked with guiding younger supervisees who navigate the profession, workplace expectations, and global events through vastly different cultural lenses. This dynamic can create friction regarding communication styles, professional boundaries, productivity metrics, and views on self-care or mental health advocacy within the workplace.

This 3-hour advanced training equips clinical supervisors with the framework needed to bridge generational divides without compromising clinical efficacy, ethical mandates, or organizational standards. Participants will explore the socio-historical factors shaping younger cohorts, examine their own implicit generational biases, and learn how to translate "entitlement" or "rigidity" into actionable professional development. Through interactive case studies, attendees will master communication strategies that honor diverse perspectives while firmly upholding the non-negotiable standards of excellent client care and legal/ethical compliance.

This training has been approved for 3-hours of supervision, ethics, and cultural competence CEU's by the Minnesota Boards of: Marriage and Family Therapy, Behavioral Health and Therapy (LPCC & LADC), Psychology and Social Work.
