Super Mario Bros.Screening

A free-to-attend film festival that highlights the best short- and feature-length documentary and narrative films in a place that recognizes filmmakers and film fans DO make history—this is Longleaf. Our weekend festival screens films that demonstrate a Tar Heel State connection, through the people involved in making them or through their subject. The North Carolina Museum of History, which strives to tell the stories that connect us all, serves as home base for Longleaf Film Festival.

NOTE THE SCHEDULE OF STUFF! The North Carolina Museum of History will remain open past its usual closing time of 5 pm, so come explore YOUR state's history and chat with Super Mario Bros. super fans and see film artifacts. Craft beer and concessions will be available. The SCREENING is at 7:00 pm; doors to the auditorium open at 6:30.  
Join us in a celebration of the 25th anniversary of this made-in-NC classic, the first live-action film adapted from the goals, obstacles, and characters in a video game. In the film, brothers Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo), two Brooklyn plumbers, work to rescue archaeologist Daisy (Samantha Mathis) from evil King Koopa (Dennis Hopper)—in a parallel dimension. Made at EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, the film’s special effects were notably innovative for the time. Ryan Hoss from <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/SMBmovieArchive/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Super Mario Bros. The Movie Archive</A> and others will host a talkback after the film.
