About this event

The President of the Croquet México Club in Valle de Guadalupe, requests the pleasure of your company, Tijuana Design Week and World Design Capital San Diego y Tijuana participants at large at our Open Clubhouse on May 5th 2024. We are sharing our private club with members of the design community for the first time since its opening in 2023. Sundays are the most special day at the Croquet Mexico Club and we look forward to hosting you for a shared experience, filled with music and incredible personalities. The Croquet Mexico Clubhouse is an architectural work of art that houses not just a private club, but a whole lifestyle aesthetic. We are sharing our Sunday Program to non-members for our special Eastern Orthodox & Cinco de Mayo Festivities. Design at Docepiedras

Juan Carlos Urias.

Frequently asked questions

How are the roads in Valle?

The recent rainfall has had an overwhelming effect on the dirt roads, large SUV or 4-wheel drive recommended but not required.

What's included?

All talks, tours, and tea is provided for you at no cost.

Will there be Food & Wine?

Of course! We will be carving up a large, local tuna from Bluefin of Ensenada with multiple chefs! There is an option to dine at the club and that can be paid for on-site. We have beautiful and unique natural wines that can be purchased as well. Pricing will be avaliable during the event.

Can we stay at the Bubble hotel?

Yes! The bubble will likely be sold out that day so please book your Bubble in advance and tell them you're there for Tijuana Design Week... https://www.camperahotel.com/campera-valle-de-guadalupe

What should we wear?

You are invited to wear white but it is not a requirement. We love color. High Heels are strongly discouraged for the health and safety of participants and for the lawn that was especially, and meticulously crafted for croquet.

Organized by

Architecture for the club began in early 2021 and construction is expected to be completed in summer 2023. Baja California Architect Giancarlo Reyes of Localista designed the building and it was constructed by TADO Architectura from Ensenada.

Rick Zazueta is a lifetime student and member of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and tried to buy late FLW building plans for this clubhouse. Unfortunately, he received a letter from the foundations' president denying his request. In the same letter, in true fellowship fashion, they encouraged Rick Zazueta to give the opportunity to local talent. Rick didn't feel like auditioning architects, so he asked his friend Miguel Buenrostro, an artist living in Berlin, who had been an influential architecture critic in Baja California, to recommend a local architect that he could have a dialogue with. Miguel Buenrostro recommended Giancarlo Reyes, and the project was born over natural wine and idealism.

The Croquet México Clubhouse architecture can be described as organic, Mexican modern, and slightly brutalist. It was important for the architecture to reflect the timeless value of the organization and of the sport of croquet. All while maintaining a personality, a national identity, and a 200 year vision for the future of the region.
