Come along with Columbus Metro Parks and Y Community Strengthening for an exciting journey into the realm of amphibians at Blacklick Woods Metro Park! First, discover the wonders of amphibian life cycles at the Nature Center. Afterward, venture outdoors to the nearby vernal pool for an exploration using dip nets to collect insects, tadpoles, and salamander larvae. It's a fascinating adventure just a short walk away from the nature center!

Meet Up Point: Blacklick Woods Nature Center
Driving directions or specific instructions for finding location: The nature center is in the back of the park. Follow the park road to the very last parking lot. The nature center is a short walk into the forest. Look for the brick path with lights overhead and that will lead you to the center.
Rain or Shine?: Yes - only cancel during thunderstorms
Recommended items to bring, things to wear, etc: Comfortable clothes and shoes for the days weather, refillable water bottle, camera
Is this program wheelchair/stroller friendly?: Yes, all terrain will be relatively flat and accommodations can be made to catch bugs where wheelchairs and strollers have easy access.
Does this program have ready access to running water? Access to running water inside the nature center and at the restrooms in the parking lot.
Is this program in the sun, shade, or other outdoor elements we should make families aware of?: Program will take place in an open field, so potential exposure to sun depending on the weather
What is the length of the hike? Less than 1/10 mile to the nature center and less than 1/10 mile to the vernal pool. Total walking - less than half-mile
What type of path is the hike on? Crushed gravel/grit (1/10 mile) and boardwalk (for the nets)
