ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:
Writing Environmental Justice is a place-based workshop for writing about environmental challenges of the present. Our compositions will be supported by documentary materials (including imagery drawn from the Philadelphia area), and we will endeavor, together, to foster a shared sense of how best to live, learn, and write on a warming planet—including through attending to local struggles for environmental justice.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Knar is a graduate of the Iowa Writers Workshop, and they recently completed their doctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania. While at Penn, they served as the Poetic Practice Fellow at the Kelly Writers House and completed a dissertation titled"'Fend for Meaningful Speech': Matters of Social Fact in Post-9/11 Docupoetry." Knar is a community defense and environmental justice organizer, cyclist-runner, and adjunct prof at Temple University. They are also the author of Vela. (the Operating System, 2019) and their poetry and other writings have appeared in Annulet, Poetry, the Denver Quarterly, AGNI, the Journal, NiCHE, and Birdfeast, among others.

This 7:30pm workshop is virtual. You may tune in on your own or join us in person at the Writers House (we’ll be hosting a watch party!) at 305 Cooper St., Camden, NJ, 08102. Either way, you will need a ticket.
