About this event

  • 2 hours

Awareness of natural cycles helps ground us in a world beyond ourselves, and gathering with friends and neighbors builds connection and community.

Since 2021, Ward 8 Woods has hosted community events every Summer and Winter Solstice.

This year Thursday, June 20 will be the longest day and shortest night of the year.

Join Ward 8 Woods staff, supporters and partners for a guided nature hike through a rarely visited section of Shepherd Parkway. As the sun sets at 8:30, we'll enjoy burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, and grilled veggies for a local grill master.

Organized by

Ward 8 Woods engages residents and visitors in uniquely satisfying volunteer experiences. Most volunteers work in the woods removing trash and cutting invasive vines. If you like to be physically active, spend time in nature, and immediately see the results of your work, you might enjoy working with us.

The simplest way to get involved is to attend one of our regularly scheduled public events: the Ft. Stanton Park Volunteer Day every first Saturday, and the Shepherd Parkway Community Clean-Up every second Saturday .
