In this Summer Shorts Workshop – Part 1, you’ll learn how to draft a personalized shorts pattern from scratch—designed to fit your body perfectly.By the end of the class, you’ll have a reusable base pattern that you can use again and again to create a variety of styles—from casual everyday shorts to beachwear, lounge shorts, or even pajama bottoms.This session focuses entirely on pattern making and is designed to be fun, approachable, and beginner-friendly.⸻📐 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:🧵 How to draft a custom shorts pattern using just four measurements📏 How body measurements translate into paper patterns✂️ How to adjust patterns when your measurements differ from standard sizing🪡 How to create a design with minimal seams (no side seams)👩‍🦰👨‍🦱 A technique that works for adults or kids, female or male body types This method gives you a strong foundation for understanding fit, proportion, and pattern adjustment — skills you can reuse for future garments.⸻🧷 PROJECT OVERVIEW:✔ Easy, confidence-building project✔ Minimal seams = beginner-friendly✔ Optional pocket variations (explained conceptually)✔ Perfect base pattern for:• Summer or beach shorts• Pajama shorts⸻🌱 SKILL LEVEL:✨ Beginner friendlyNo previous sewing or pattern-making experience is required for Part 1.This is an ideal first-ever pattern-making project.⸻WHAT THIS CLASS COVERS:📄 Pattern making only (no sewing required for Part 1)📐 Drafting a reusable, custom-fit pants/shorts pattern📏 Understanding measurements, fit, and basic adjustments➡️ In a future session, this pattern can be used to sew your pajama pants, including hemming and an elastic waistband 🔁⸻📅 WHEN: Thursday, April 16⏰ TIME: 6:00 – 8:00 PM⸻💲 COST:💵 Workshop fee: $115All Materials Are Included (🧵 Pattern-making paper, 📐 Straight rulers &amp; French/curved rulers, 📏 Measuring tapes, ✏️ All necessary drafting tools) Everything you need for pattern making is provided — just bring yourself!

Meet your Instructor : Julia MedeirosHi there! I’m Julia Medeiros, a seasoned professional in the world of apparel.With over 25 years of experience under my belt (yes, I started early!) I've honed my skills as a tailor, pattern maker, and sewing technologist. Specializing in women’s clothing, and utilizing my One Fitting method, I’ve brought countless unique garments to life, turning my clients’ visions into reality. I have deep experience with teaching sewing classes around the world I am excited to bring my expertise to The Nest.
