About this event

Event Details: It's a Summer of SUP! Join us at Quail Lake for our donation-based 1-hour Standup Paddleboarding (SUP) classes. UpaDowna will be at Quail Lake every other Sunday beginning June 9. Select from 4 different class times throughout the morning and early afternoon. Summer of SUP classes are open to all ages and abilities. See below for age guidelines.

Learning objectives for the class include:

  • Understand basic terminology of the SUP and paddle.
  • Learn how to properly fit all safety devices including PFD and leashes.
  • Identify safety considerations and environmental hazards on the water.
  • Demonstrate how to remount SUP.
  • Demonstrate how to properly leave launching area and get on the SUP.
  • Demonstrate various paddling strokes.

Please arrive 15-minutes prior to start time.

Schedule:

  • June 9: 9am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 12:45pm
  • June 23: 9am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 12:45pm
  • July 7: 9am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 12:45pm
  • July 21: No Classes - UpaDowna will be hosting a special FREE class at Manitou Lake in Woodland Park
  • Aug 4: 9am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 12:45pm
  • Aug 18: 9am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 12:45pm

Age recommendations:

  • Children 12 years old and under are recommended to have an additional participant onboard SUP.
  • Children 5 years old and under are required to have one participant, who is comfortable paddling onboard.

What’s Included?: UpaDowna’s Summer of SUP classes provide all safety education, instruction, and equipment including SUP, paddle, leash, and a dry bag for small personal belongings.

Where: Quail Lake - Southwest side of lake by the playground. Look for the UpaDowna tent!

Parking: Parking is limited at Quail Lake. Please abide by all posted parking signs. Do not park in the surrounding neighborhoods. If the lot on the west side of the lake is full, you will have to park on the east side of the lake and walk a short .2 mi along the trail to the west side.

Cost: This is a donation-based event. An $18 donation per SUP is recommended. Each participant must register individually. Cash, card, and Venmo payments are accepted for walk-up registration.

UpaDowna's mission is to provide access to outdoor adventures for all. Our donation-based events break down monetary barriers while also allowing us to continue to offer free and affordable events!

Refunds: Forfeited reservations due to late arrival (10-minutes past start time) may be rescheduled to another time slot if space is available. No refunds may be issued if reservation is forfeited, and participant(s) is unable to reschedule to another time slot. Cancellations due to inclement weather may be refunded or transferred to a future date.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to swim?

No. All participants will be required to wear a PFD at all times. Nervous about being on the water? Our staff will be available to SUP alongside to make sure you are comfortable on our SUPs!
