About this event

  • 3 days 3 hours

Four days of exploration in the Fab Lab at Lake Michigan College. Different projects will be available each day for participants to explore and learn the equipment in the lab. This is an open style camp. Participants will learn how to use the mini lathes, 3D printers, lasers, vinyl and sewing machines

Sample Projects include:

  • Laser out fabric for plushies
  • Create personalized keychains
  • Cut out and engrave leather for a journal or bookmarks
  • Personalize pet tags and collars
  • Create stickers and/or magnets
  • Create a design and then press it on a shirt
  • Learn to sew by creating your own plushie (see lasers)
  • Embroider on shirts, pillows, etc with our CNC embroidery machine
  • Create wood turned pens
  • Custom make a clock
  • Create other wood turned products
  • 3D print almost anything!
  • Learn Adobe Illustrator and create your own designs
  • Create 3D models with Fusion 360

Each participant will have 12 hours of time to create and complete as many projects as they desire. Participants should be at least 8 years old to participate within this camp. Proper attire is also needed. No open toed shoes or loose clothing. No “dangling” jewelry and all hair will need to be tied back.

Our camps are designed for the participants to learn to come up with problem solving techniques and "make things". Sometimes, this involves failing, returning to the original concept and trying again. We want to create an environment of trying, re-thinking the process, and trying again to make the design better. We believe this approach encourages creative thinking and determination in addition to exposing them to new technologies.

Registration for this camp closes one week prior to allow time to purchase required materials. Registration is limited. Projects are subject to change based on material availability. Once registered, you'll receive an email asking for the participant(s) name, age, and gender for our instructor's roster. If you have questions, please email them to fablab@lakemichigancollege.edu.

The Fab Lab is a place where students can build science, technology, engineering and math skills through hands on learning. Participating in Fab Lab activities allow students to explore and experiment with digital fabrication technology including 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, and Vinyl Cutters.
