Topic: Bird Observers

Welcome to Adventure Camps, the Alaska Zoo's premiere youth program! These outdoor education experiences with zoo animals and educators will make lasting impressions on campers ages 6-10. Each camp includes behind-the-scenes visits with animals, talks with zookeepers, hands-on projects in the zoo's two classrooms and lots of outdoor play.

During the 4-day "Bird Observers" summer camp session from May 28th-31st, campers will explore birding, bird games and enrichment for bird encounters.

Ages: 6-10 only. Campers are divided into appropriate age groupings of 15 campers in each of our two zoo classrooms (Discovery Center and Gateway). We try to honor requests for friends or siblings in groups, but we cannot make guarantees.

Times: Camps days are 9am - 4pm.

Arrival and Pick-up: Drop offs start at 8:45am and pick-ups are no later than 4:30pm. We will assess a late pick-up fee of $50 for each half-hour late past 4:30pm. Drop off and pick up will be in the Gateway classroom located down the entrance stairs and to the left. Campers who arrive with fevers or symptoms of illness will not be allowed to attend. If your child needs to stay home due to illness, we will work with you.

Price

  • 4-day session: $300 per zoo member, $320 per non-member.
  • We cannot prorate camp fees for days missed. Camps are sold in specified session lengths only, no single days. Camps are non-refundable.
  • Registration is online only. Small service fees are added to these prices in checkout.

Refund Policy

Camps are refundable minus a $50 fee if we can find a replacement from the waiting list. If we cannot find a replacement from our waiting list, there is no refund. We will process transfer requests if there is space in the camps to do so. We do not allow friends or family to take spots which are vacated as we go in chronological order from our waiting list to be fair.

  • After February 1st, 2024, we will not process refunds or transfers for Spring Break Camp.
  • After May 1st, 2024, we will not process refunds or transfers for Summer Camp.

What to Bring: A sack lunch, at least two extra snacks and a water bottle from home. A backpack, gear appropriate for the weather, cameras welcome (if the camper is responsible). Cell phones can be brought but must stay in backpacks unless allowed out at lunch. If they are being used to take pictures, this can be done on zoo grounds. We limit all other cell phone use during camp.
