Why We Created the Suitable Subbie Program

Australia is facing a Suitability Gap — thousands of people finish their apprenticeships with qualifications, yet employers still say they aren’t “job-ready”. They may be capable, but not yet competent in real-world business.

The average age of a business owner in Australia is 50, not because young people lack skill, but because they lack the support to start earlier.

People under the age of 25 generally don’t know that they are invited to join their local small business community.

We are looking for:

• Apprentices' and tradies’ partners who want to help set up or run the business
• Subbies who want to go out on their own but don’t know where to start
• New contractors needing stronger business systems
• Construction workers looking for non-trade pathways such as admin, marketing, estimating or operations
• Businesses want better-trained subcontractors
