Suhaila Salimpour 2-day workshop: Suhaila & Jamila Format overview
Both Suhaila Salimpour and Jamila Salimpour formats will be presented as well as a drum solo choregraphy and special Arabic music class taught by Fathi Al Jarrah.
The Salimpour School of Dance:
Jamila has been teaching her format and finger cymbal instruction method since 1949. She continued to evolve and develop step familes throughout the years. In the late 1970s the format was compiled in the Danse Orientale manual; soon thereafter, Suhaila was filmed teaching the format in the Archive Series.
Suhaila’s certification program provides a well-rounded curriculum to train students to become complete belly dancers.
Having been raised with both Jamila’s format and with conventional dance training (ballet, jazz, tap, etc.), Suhaila began using elements from her conventional dance to solidify and expand her mother’s format at an early age. Beginning in the mid-80’s while she was in high school, Suhaila began working more purposely on developing her own format. She continued developing her format and launched the certification program based on her format in 1999. Suhaila’s format has existed for over 30 years and is continually evaluated and updated to maintain the highest instructional and education standard available in belly dance.
