Hear about students' amazing experiences studying and working abroad in Germany and Austria this past quarter and summer!

Meet NU students recently returning from Berlin and Vienna, as well as students who did internships in Berlin and elsewhere last summer and ask them questions about their unforgettable experience! Programs that will be discussed include CIEE Berlin, IES Vienna, Fulbright Teaching Assistantships in Austria, and internships to Berlin and Stuttgart.Here are the SU student alumns who will be in attendance:Sam Casey is a senior Political Science student. His program this past fall was called IES Abroad, European Society and Culture. The focus was on the history and culture of Austria, as well as political developments of Europe as a whole over the last few decades. He attended courses mostly with other U.S. students who were abroad. The program was based in Vienna but there were also many program trips around different parts of Austria.Lauren Shapiro is a Weinberg senior studying Biology. This past summer, she interned in Berlin at a Biomedical startup company called Sphaira through the Cultural Vistas program. She has studied German for two years at Northwestern and loves learning the language. She loves weightlifting, crocheting, and painting in her free time, and hopes to enter the healthcare industry as a nurse.Nate Sowder is a senior and master’s student with the combined degree program in Computer Science at Weinberg and McCormick. This past summer, he interned in Berlin this past summer at the NPO European Institute for Participatory Media as a web developer. He minored in German as an undergrad student, a pursuit he enjoyed immensely. He hopes to make a return to Germany for work in the future.Naya Tadavarthy is a first year MFA student in costume design at Northwestern. She spent last year in Vienna, Austria on a Fulbright Combined Grant, for which she taught middle- and high-school English classes, attended university courses, and researched the connections between nineteenth-century theatre costuming and fashion.
