Strings Without Borders
Overview

A vibrant celebration of musical virtuosity, blending Chinese heritage with a border-crossing musical adventure.

Bask in the virtuosity of this award-winning multi-instrumentalist. Chinese-American violinist Strauss Shi is rapidly establishing himself as one of today’s most versatile multi-instrumental artists representing music of the East and West. At the age of seventeen, Strauss made his solo debut with the Utah Symphony under the baton of Vladimir Kulenovic, and since then has garnered top prizes and acclaims in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Featuring musicians: Strauss Shi, TY Zhang, and Lu Liu.

Section I — Roots: Memory and Origin
Rooted in memory and origin, this section returns to the landscapes, traditions, and emotions that give Chinese music its first voice, where ancestry, place, and cultural identity unfold through time-honored melodies and expressive string traditions.

Section II — Routes: Crossing and Exchange
Carried by movement and encounter, this section follows music as it absorbs new languages and influences, revealing routes not as mere geography but as living pathways of conversation, trade, and curiosity.

Section III — New Ground: Shared Voices
Emerged by collaboration and renewal, this section reveals how music takes root in new contexts. Here, diverse traditions listen to one another, blend, and speak together—where music resonates together and shapes a shared and evolving soundscape.
