About this event

  • 3 hours

Imagine a future where your friends and family make a sustainable wage and have a meaningful say in their workplaces. Envision neighborhoods where residents have a direct stake in shaping their environment, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. Dream of a future where communities are supported with resources and opportunities. Together, let's work towards building a more equitable and compassionate society for all.

We invite you to a gathering focused on collective imagination—what might it take for us to co-create an inclusive economy and build a cooperative ecosystem?

Why cooperatives?

Cooperative businesses are powerful tools for building regional community wealth and weaving together social networks that lead to greater resilience and prosperity. Cooperatives can close the racial wealth gap and reduce the displacement of Metro Denver residents and small businesses. Most importantly, cooperatives create stronger communities!

What will this event include?

This event will bring together a multidisciplinary community of cooperators and community members, including co-op members, immigrants, entrepreneurs, cooperative developers, local and state leaders, academics, unions, the business community, social and economic justice advocates, and nonprofits.

Join us on June 6, 2024, for a panel discussion about the cooperative economy in Colorado and the new book Humanity@Work&Life: A Global Diffusion of Mondragon Cooperative Ecosystem. We will host the editors Michael Peck (1 worker 1 vote) and Christina Clamp (CAC Advisors, LEAF, and The ICA Group), and one of the authors, Ibon Zugasti, from the Mondragon Corporation, a global federation of worker cooperatives based in the Basque region of Spain. Mr. Zugasti and the panelists – Yessica Holguin (Center for Community Wealth Building), Asia Dorsey (Satya Yoga Cooperative and Regenerate Change), and Linda Phillips (Jason Wiener|p.c.) – will discuss how lessons from Mondragon can inform Colorado’s cooperative ecosystem.

,

We will begin (and end) the evening with food and space to connect informally.

Due to popular demand, this is a hybrid event available in person and online via Zoom. We strongly recommend that local folks attend in person.

This event is done in partnership with the Worker Co-op Peer Network, a resource for worker-owned cooperatives throughout Colorado to learn best practices, connect with peers, and build their businesses. This event series is proudly sponsored by the Colorado Office of Employee Ownership.
