Strength for Parenthood
A PT-led strength and movement class for new and soon-to-be parents
Parenthood is physically demanding — lifting, carrying, feeding, pushing strollers, getting up off the floor, and doing it all while tired. This 6-week class is designed to help you build the strength, movement confidence, and body awareness needed for the real-life demands of caring for a baby or toddler.
We also know that early parenthood can feel isolating, so creating community and meaningful connections will be a key part of this program.
Led by physical therapists at Upward Physical Therapy, this progressive small-group class focuses on practical strength training and proper lifting mechanics to help reduce aches, pains, and injuries commonly experienced during pregnancy and early parenthood.
Each class includes:
- Guided warm-up and mobility work
- Progressive strength training circuits
- Education on safe lifting and movement mechanics
- Functional exercises that mimic real parenting tasks
- A supportive, welcoming environment for parents and caregivers
Movements may include:
- Squats and deadlifts
- Carrying variations
- Core strengthening
- Scapular/postural strengthening for feeding and carrying
- Pushing and pulling mechanics for strollers and daily life
This class is ideal for:
- Expecting parents
- New parents
- Parents of toddlers
- Grandparents or caregivers wanting to move and lift more confidently
Important Notes:
- New moms should be at least 6 weeks postpartum or cleared by their medical provider.
- Babies are not permitted during class (though we do love them!).
- No prior strength training experience required.
Program Details
- Tuesdays at 6:30 PM
- 6-week series beginning June 16th
- Includes an additional social/Q&A meetup at a local brewery or coffee shop
- Small group format
