Join NJ Watershed Ambassadors as we look for aquatic insects within the beautiful and diverse streams at the NJ School of conservation!

NJ School of Conservation

Learn about the lives of the tiny “bug” creatures that are often overlooked in streams and rivers — aquatic macroinvertebrates. This interactive outdoor program will welcome spring with an overview of what aquatic macroinvertebrates are, how to identify them, and their importance to our waterways. With a hands-on opportunity to collect and identify the macroinvertebrates, you will take on the role of a stream scientist using your findings to determine the health of the stream. This workshop is open to adults, and children age 8 and over. Children must be accompanied by an adult and all participants must register in advance. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to Sunday, April 3rd and participants will be notified via email. The Friends of the New Jersey School of Conservation is a U.S. tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. When NJSOC closed in July 2020, the Friends launched a campaign to save it. This ultimately led to negotiations with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, owners of NJSOC, to obtain an interim management agreement for the School. This agreement was finalized in April 2021, and the Friends of NJSOC are proud to offer limited programming at NJSOC with the help of dedicated and talented volunteers. We are pleased to register you for one of our programs!
