At KDD Philanthropy, we know from experience that strategic portfolio management is the foundation of fundraising success. This two part series provides fundraisers with the tools they need to use their portfolio as a tool for raising exceptional gifts and supporting the larger institution’s goals. A mix of big-picture guidance, practical advice, and hands-on exercises to reinforce skillset development, this series offers three trainings that will build a greater understanding of data, assist in setting prioritization around prospects and build opportunities for greater collaboration across your advancement shop.

We will discuss the factors that support portfolio optimization and provide immediately-actionable tips on how to use organizational trends to support donor engagement and portfolio management.

Session 1: How to Approach Your Portfolio — Wednesday, July 17, 2024

  • How to: Understanding and applying portfolio optimization, planning, engagement, and decision-making skills for moving donor strategies.
  • Strengthen understanding of portfolio contacts for relationship movement. Build skill sets so that gift officers are contacting 90% of their portfolios within a 90-day period.
  • Exercise: Masked Portfolio

Session 2: Supporting the Institutional Portfolio — Wednesday, August 21, 2024

  • Expand portfolio definitions to include institutional portfolios.
  • Explore ways to better diversify portfolios.
  • Strengthen portfolio collaborations.
  • Exercise: Inclination exercise to support tools from sessions one and two. contributing to the larger goals of Advancement and the entire institution.

Speaker Backgrounds:

Kathy Drucquer Duff is an expert in advancement and leadership development with clients around the world. She's worked in and with institutions across the nonprofit spectrum, including education, the environment, healthcare, and social services. Her work spans training, coaching, and strategy, and is informed by a strong belief that the best investment a leader can make is in the people who carry out the work of inspiring and securing philanthropy every day.

Kathy founded KDD Philanthropy after honing her approaching in a career that included serving as Associate Vice Chancellor of University Development at University of California, San Diego, Vice President of Philanthropy at Sharp HealthCare Foundation, and Associate Vice President of University Relations and Development at San Diego State University.

Kathy is a regular speaker for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Association of Donor Relations Professionals (ADRP). She teaches for Academic Impressions and authored "Productive Conversations with Donors: A Handbook for Frontline Fundraisers."
