*Special Event* June 17th
Join us as Storyteller Gwendolyn Lewis delves into the origins of Juneteenth and its vibrant celebrations. After the story, gather with your community to craft a grand Pan African Flag while learning the meaning behind the symbols and colors that are often used to commemorate this important day.
Every Monday at 12:30 pm we will meet on the blue carpet in our Childrens section of the Edison Branch library for Storytime with Ms. Katie!
Storytimes begin with a few books read by Ms. Katie. Kids are encouraged to listen and participate in storytime and will be joined by an adoptable dog visiting from Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control.
After listening to some stories and singing songs on our blue carpet, we will move to our art tables where we will make a craft or art project based on the weeks theme. During that time kids and families are offered a chance to spend one on one time with the dog visiting that day. Kids are welcome to pet and play with the dogs, and are also encouraged to read to them! Reading to dogs has proven to help kids gain confidence in their reading abilities!
This program is for children ages 12 and under, however, siblings of all ages and parents are more than welcome to join us! We ask that grown ups stay with their kids who are11 and under at all times.
