Story Lab: Part I | Preptober
Dive into the world of storytelling with Story Lab: Part I, where we'll explore the art of crafting compelling narratives together!
All writers—whether they write novels, picture books, or works of nonfiction—fundamentally deal in the somewhat elusive product that is “story.” Elusive? Yes, indeed, it eludes authors submitting manuscripts all the time.
It also baffles authors who say "Story is what happens, right?"
No, the series of events that occurs in a narrative is plot.
"Oh, right, story is about the character’s journey?"
Well, yes, that’s a part of it.
Story is the lifeblood that flows when character, setting, plot, and theme come together to allow the author to say something to the reader. Story invites the reader to step into the world of the book and the shoes of the protagonist. Story is the why—why this author is sharing their writing with you, and why you should care.
Join Jessica in this workshop, examining what story is and how writers can ensure their writing has the spark of story. Following this workshop, attendees will be invited to submit their story ideas for critique in the following session.
