Frequently asked questions

What is storm drain marking?

Storm drains line our streets and help carry rain water from our streets to our waterways. By marking these drains with watershed medallions, we can keep these drains, and therefore our waterways, clean. For more information on storm drain marking, visit www.delawareestuary.org/mark-a-storm-drain.

What does a storm drain marking volunteer event entail?

Volunteers will walk along the sidewalk, stopping at storm drains to prep the area and glue the medallion onto the drain. Learn more by watching our instructional video at https://youtu.be/FYMF1NBgRIU.

What ages can participate?

All ages are welcome, but be aware that this is an active volunteer event! Participants will need to walk within roughly a 5 block radius. All participants will need to complete a waiver to participate. Minors under the age of 18 will need the waiver form completed by a parent or guardian.

What do I need to wear or bring?

All materials for the marking activity will be provided! Be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and good walking shoes. If wanted, bring water and snacks for your group.

The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, host of the Delaware Estuary Program, leads collaborative, science–based efforts to improve the Delaware River and Bay, which covers portions of Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary works to restore the health of the Delaware River and Bay—an environment on which millions of people, wildlife, and plants depend. With an emphasis on science and collaboration and a focus on the entire Estuary, we are uniquely positioned to develop and implement programs that are improving the Estuary environment to levels not seen in many decades. Working with and through the Partnership, concerned individuals, businesses, and governments can amplify their impact on protecting a natural resource at the center of our region’s quality of life.
