About this event

  • 2 hours

John Plashal has not only spent many years identifying and photographing beautifully decaying houses, churches, schools, hospitals and other structures throughout our state but has assimilated into their respective communities to learn about their accompanying backstories. The result is "Stories of an Abandoned Virginia", a unique presentation full of powerful imagery and emotional stories revolving around local landmarks that have been "frozen in time". This is one of two presentations Plashal will deliver at the Vinegar Hill Theatre on September 21st. The other presentation is called "From Enslavement to Empowerment: The Story of the Belmead on the James" and it begins at 4PM. Those tickets are sold separately.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I park?

Street parking is available if you can find it. If not, there is paid parking at the Omni Hotel parking lot across the street.

Is the theatre handicap accessible?

Yes it is. Our guests with disabilities should notify the box office upon arrival. They will re-direct you to a separate door that offers ramp access to the theatre.

Can you recommend any nearby restaurants if I want to grab lunch before the program?

The theatre is adjacent to the Charlottesville Downtown Mall. A quick Google search will yield dozens of dining options within walking distance , especially along Main Street.

Will concessions be available for sale?

Yes they will. Popcorn, candy, soda, water, beer and wine will be available for sale.

What if I am interested in attending both of your presentations that afternoon?

The "From Enslavement to Empowerment: The Story of the Belmead on the James" presentation will begin at 4PM. If you have tickets for both programs, you will NOT need to leave the theatre and then re-enter, as a wristband will be issued for our "double feature" guests.

This is a non-refundable program, with no exceptions.

Who do I contact if I have questions about this program?
