    Course Description

    Severe blood loss is one of the leading causes of preventable death. Rapid bleeding can occur from injuries at home, at work, or when traveling. Knowing how to stop rapid bleeding until emergency responders arrive can be life-saving. In this FREE, 1-hour course, participants will learn the skills to provide immediate bleeding control when faced with an emergency. All classes are led by the experts from the WakeMed Trauma Center & Capital Regional Advisory Committee on Trauma.

    Home to one of six Level I Trauma Centers, the highest designation awarded to trauma centers by the American College of Surgeons and the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services. 

    As a North Carolina designated trauma center, WakeMed provides life-saving care to the citizens of Wake County and serves as a referral center for trauma patients from surrounding counties.

    Capital Regional Advisory Committee

    The Capital Region Advisory Committee (CapRAC) area includes health care and disaster preparedness stakeholders in the North Carolina counties of Franklin, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, and Wake.

    Our mission is to participate in development and maintenance of a coordinated health care system to promote optimal patient care and disaster response for all citizens within the CapRAC area.

    The goal of the CapRAC is to facilitate the development, implementation, & operation of a comprehensive regional patient care system, based on accepted standards of care, in order to decrease morbidity & mortality resulting from illness & injury.

    Medical Simulation Center

    With patient safety and quality outcomes in mind, WakeMed Health & Hospitals offers the region's first Medical Simulation Center.

    Health care providers have the opportunity to practice skills and gain clinical confidence in a controlled, yet realistic environment.

    WakeMed's Medical Simulation Center is a 3,800 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility, located on the WakeMed Raleigh Campus. 

    The Medical Simulation Center provides a unique training environment for health care providers throughout the region, including those affiliates with Wake AHEC, The Capital Regional Advisory Committee (CapRAC), Wake Technical Community College and the numerous hospitals that comprise the Southern Atlantic Healthcare Alliance (SAHA).
