Field Meridians

A walking meditation and patchwork workshop with textile artist Megumi Arai.

Brooklyn Public Library - Brower Park Branch at Brooklyn Children's Museum

In line with Field Meridian’s commitment to inviting the act of noticing into our day to day and cultivating a sense of belonging in central Brooklyn, this workshop will intertwine ecology through a walking meditation in Brower Park with tactile making as a communicative form of experience. With guidance and instruction, each participant will get to share their walking experience through patchwork, applique and sewing. What happens when we intentionally take time away from technology and the to-do list to focus on our breath, our step and the elements around us? How does this experience connect to creativity and inspiration? Does this exercise open us to the possibility for a new experience in our relationship to place?What’s Included:&nbsp;<ul><li>Walking meditation guidelines</li><li>Sewing embroidery needles and thread, fabric, instruction guideline</li><li>Tea &amp; water</li></ul>What to Bring:<ul><li>Walking shoes</li><li>One piece of cloth / fabric that is significant to you, reminds you of home (to be used in patchwork)</li></ul>Accessibility: For those who walking is not an option, sitting meditation in the park is also an option. Some dexterity is necessary for sewing / pinning. About Megumi AraiMegumi Shauna Arai is a Japanese-Jewish artist based in New York City. Her practice is inspired by abstraction, craft, and the experience of betweenness with a particular interest in literal and metaphorical borders and the notion of belonging. About Field Meridians Nature SchoolFM Nature School is a project to co-create an arts-based urban ecology curriculum that reflects our neighborhood in Brooklyn—aiming to generate tools for resilience.Field Meridians is an artist collective committed to strengthening local food ecologies. Through site-specific programming, publishing, and radio broadcast, Field Meridians engages the Crown Heights community to lay the foundations for food sovereignty in the heart of Brooklyn. Field Meridians is an extension of MOLD magazine, the critically acclaimed online and print magazine about design and the future of food.
