Steps for Youth, is a dance education non-profit organization that serves the community by partnering with local schools, encouraging creativity in a safe environment and providing opportunities and resources for youth of all backgrounds and abilities. Driven by our mission is to educate, inspire and enrich lives through dance, our programming focuses on providing affordable and enriching dance education to Youth of Color who have historically been excluded from the art form of dance. For students who have a passion to pursue dance professionally, we offer dance scholarships. Whether youth are inspired to participate recreationally or driven to follow a professional path, Steps for Youth strives to uplift students and create a more accessible art form.

Organized by

We're a dance studio located in Portland, Oregon. Our mission is to educate, inspire and enrich lives through dance.

Since October 2017, Founder and Artistic Director, Kathryn Harden has created a safe space to preserve dance as an art form and nurture successful dancers. Everyone is encouraged to learn and grow thanks to a passionate staff that has trained professionally around the world.

We bring together a diverse community of highly regarded artists and collaborations through Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, House and more. Classes are offered seven days a week for all ages and all levels, as well as monthly workshops.

Driven by our mission, we engage with our community by; partnering with local schools, encouraging creativity in a safe environment, and providing opportunities and resources to youth of all backgrounds and abilities. Non-profit Steps for Youth is unique in that our leadership team consists of Women of Color who know firsthand how meaningful it is for students to see themselves reflected in their teachers and leaders. We value the importance of representation and employ a roster of teaching artists and staff who are racially diverse and who reflect the community we serve.

Steps for Youth in-school and after-school dance program focuses on providing affordable and enriching dance education to Youth of Color who have historically been excluded from the art form of dance.

We depend on your support to continue nurturing our partnerships with local schools, and expand, to make dance accessible to more youth.
