A unique walking opportunity to walk in the footsteps of St Cholmcille on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, in a one-day, 18km, guided walk through scenic Donegal to the birthplace of St Colmcille (Columba).
This Slí, (meaning ‘way’ in Gaeilge), offers a breathtaking experience of scenery, solace and self-discovery at every turn. It will also commemorate the anniversary of Colmcille's death 1,428 years ago.
The walk starts at St Michael’s Church in Creeslough with registration at 9am and departs at 9.30am sharp.
From there you will be guided through native forest, country lanes, ancient bog roads and a short section of roadway arriving at the historic St Colmcille’s Abbey in Gartan via the stunning Glenveagh National Park.
This is just one section of the ambitious Slí Cholmcille walking trail project that stretches from Glencolmcille in south west Donegal to the island of Iona in Scotland.
Please be advised this one-day walk is 18 km long, occasionally over uneven terrain, mountain tracks and hills, which requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to complete safely.
There will be an opportunity to take part in the ‘Turas’ in Gartan after the main walk has concluded.
Transport will be provided from Gartan back to Creeslough at the end of the walk.
