STEM Workshop
Overview

The STEM Workshop is a program where Library patrons can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore, and discover new things!

The STEM Workshop (formerly known as the Maker Workshop) is a program (Ages: 8 - 12) (7 on a case-by-case basis) where Library patrons can gather to create and invent, tinker and explore, and discover new things using a variety of equipment and craft materials. The program mainly focuses on STEM/STEAM activities, often with crafty elements. What is STEM/STEAM? Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics!

Upcoming themes include:

April (10th & 24th) (Palms Sweaty, Engineers Ready!) We will be discussing how buildings are made, what specifications need consideration given local factors, and will attempt to create our own bridges for a test crossing and weight test!

May (9th & 23rd) (Sabotage with Camouflage!) We will learn how camouflage came to be in nature, how it came to be adapted and used by humans, and how to best use it to conceal our test bunnies from prying eyes!

June (12th & 26th) (Dirt Crumbs & Green Thumbs!) We will be learning about fruits and vegetables, what they need in order to grow and thrive, and will be planting and taking care of our own sunflowers or lettuce!

July (10th & 24th) (SURMAIHERB & TRRURESAMI!) We will be learning about how HSRBE are recorded and preserved, how to maintain a EIRMATUNI TAHTAIB, and how to create our own MBARIUEHR LTESBSTO and RAUESMTRRI!

August (14th & 28th) (UERMSM SKIES & YLOASEDSR III!) We will be learning about the EPCMRSUT of HGILT, why VU ARYS are important, and how to use SRLTOFASA YDSE and the power of the NSU to make our own RHTSIT designs!

September (11th & 25th) (SREGA ILLW LERATT; PREPREA RFO LETTBA!) We will be learning about the SIBACS of GRAORPMINGM, will cover a light history on SOORBT, and will DALE the REGACH in a TEDLASUIM "LETTBA!"

October (9th & 23rd) (TOABS IWLL YASW; ASCHORN WAGIHE II!) We will learn about YANBOUYC and how LSTEE HIPSS OATFL, and will not only make HIPSS using SEDSIVOIMPR ALSTAMEIR, but will also be putting our SINGSED to the SETT!

November (13th) & December (11th) (GGE LALF III | VAKCHEU YAW OT CRCAK!) We will be doing some GHLIT INGSCHTEA on VITGRYA & TIMOON, will learn about the history of CHUTESARAP, and will make CHUTESARAP for our GEG-TRSREOOARAP!

Participation in our STEM Workshop is intended for ages 7 and older, and it involves certain inherent risks associated with using chemicals, tools, and products used for learning and exploring STEAM topics. While we prioritize safety through proper supervision and instruction, there is a risk of injury or damage to personal property. By purchasing a ticket and participating in the STEM Workshop, you acknowledge and agree that you will adhere to all safety guidelines and are responsible for properly and safely using any equipment, tools, or materials provided during the event. In the event of accidental damage or breakage due to negligence, you may be asked to replace the item. Participants must adhere to all safety guidelines, wear appropriate protective gear when necessary, and exercise caution when handling tools and materials. Failure to do so may result in being barred from current and future programs. Parental or guardian supervision is required for participants under ten years of age or minors without an ID. Your safety is our priority, and we are committed to providing a secure and educational environment.

Effective July 2025, we will be asking parents/guardians & their children if they can sign a Photo Release Form and the Minor Photo Release Form on the backside, giving consent to MCCS staff to record photos & videos of all parties for marketing purposes. Please let us know if you would prefer for yourself and/or your children to stay clear of the cameras!
