Event description

Description

Steamhack 2017 is an event designed by the Tallahassee technology community. Teams of product designers, software developers, and digital artists will compete to produce the most impressive solution to a given technical challenge. This type of event is known as a hackathon. Local companies will sponsor the event, and the proceeds will go towards providing technology education to the members of our community via the following two not for profit entities.

Living Stones International (LSI) was established as a children and family outreach and social service organization. LSI seeks to offer children of inmates the opportunity to break out of the cycle of incarceration and the ability to reconnect with family members within the State Prison System in Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty and Wakulla counties.

Codecraft Lab is a technology–themed lab that offers a hands-on, self-paced curriculum for students in a comfortable, collaborative learning environment. Codecraft Lab aims to promote meaningful mentor relationships and powerful learning opportunities.

One of the programs that Living Stones International operates is an after school program for the children of incarcerated parents. All Steamhack sponsorship monies will be used to both help Living Stones meet their after school program operating budget and fund the delivery of technology curriculum. Codecraft Labs has been selected to provide the curriculum and mentorship framework.
