Build Your First App at The Hive!

Open to adults and children with caretakers

Do you have a game-changing app idea? Do you ever wish there was an app to do something that doesn't currently exist? Are you curious about the app economy and how you can tap into it? Dive into the world of app creation in this fun, beginner-friendly, two-week workshop! In week one, we’ll break down the basics—specifically looking at what an app is, and showing you how to prototype your app to recruit stakeholders. In Part Two, we’ll teach you coding basics in a fun, gamified environment to start your app development journey! No experience needed—just bring your curiosity and get ready to create, explore, and have fun with code.


THE SECOND PART OF THIS WORKSHOP WILL TAKE PLACE ON MAY 14, 4:30PM. PART ONE MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE PARTICIPATING PART TWO.

What level of programming experience do I need to attend this workshop?

This workshop is designed for beginners! You don't need any prior coding experience. We'll start with the fundamentals and guide you through each step. If you have some programming background, you'll still learn valuable skills and gain a practical understanding of app development.

What tools and software will we be using?

We'll primarily use Apple Keynote and Swift. You'll receive clear instructions on how to create an account and access the platform.

What type of app will we be building? Can I build any app I want?

During the workshop, we'll focus on building a basic app. This will give you a solid foundation in the core concepts of app development. While you'll learn the skills to build a wide range of apps, we'll concentrate on a specific project for the workshop's duration to ensure everyone can follow alon

What if I get stuck or need help during the workshop?

Our experienced Digital Navigators (instructors) will be there to guide you every step of the way. We'll have dedicated Q&A sessions, and you can ask questions throughout the workshop. We'll also provide resources and support materials to help you continue learning after the workshop.

What should I bring to the workshop?

We’ll let you borrow one of our iMacs, Macbooks, or iPads (or you can bring your own) and we’ll provide free high speed internet access. Bring any notes or ideas you have for your app. Most importantly, bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn!
