The Staples Lecture Series was created by colleagues and family of Dr. Charlie Staples to honor his contributions to the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida. Charlie was a devoted mentor to colleagues and graduate students.

Title of seminar: Periparturient immune suppression: Real or Just Misunderstood?


Dr. Lance Baumgard is a Distinguished and the Norman L. Jacobson Endowed Professor in Dairy Nutrition in the Department of Animal Sciences at Iowa State University. Before joining Iowa State, Dr. Baumgard was a professor at the University of Arizona. His research and teaching focuses on the interface between nutrition, gastrointestinal physiology, and nutrition in dairy cattle. A major focus of his program is how environmental disturbances such as heat stress and activation of the immune system influences the animal physiology and nutrient requirements.
