This training is invite only for City of Detroit employees.This 2-hour SOP Lab provides participants with a structured environment to develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) using the knowledge gained from the virtual or on-demand course. The live-virtual SOP Lab practically guides participants in drafting a department-approved SOP using key SOP elements and best practices to transform a department’s SOP needs into clear, actionable procedures. As a prerequisite to attending the SOP Lab, participants must have successfully completed either the on-demand (self-paced) or the live-virtual (Zoom) SOP training. TDPM will not admit participants into the SOP Lab unless they complete this training requirement. Participants must bring into this lab a new or updated department-approved SOP which participants have created or significantly updated, describing how it benefits the department, and detailing a simple procedure given the lab’s limited time for one-on-one guidance. The SOP must successfully meet TDPM’s SOP criteria (i.e. SOP Core Components and structure) and TDPM’s recommendations for participants’ specific SOP. Participants have seven (7) days after attending the SOP lab to submit their completed SOP after which they must attend the SOP Lab again. This lab is a requirement for participants pursuing SOP certification aka the Process and Procedure Specialist Certification. The Process and Procedure Specialist Certification consists of four (4) components: 1. SOP Training: Participants must complete the on-demand training session or live-virtual SOP training before taking the SOP Lab. 2. SOP Lab: Participants have six months from the time they take either training to complete the SOP Lab, using lab time to develop SOPs, asking questions, and/or submitting SOPs. 3. SOP Submission: Participants must submit their SOP to TDPM for approval either during or seven (7) days after the SOP Lab. Participants who cannot submit an SOP within this timeframe must attend another lab session. 4. SOP exam: TDPM shall communicate the exam link upon verification of SOP training or SOP lab completion, and/or after SOP submission. Participants must take an exam time after undergoing the training up to six (6) months from the SOP training, but a maximum of fourteen (14) days after TDPM approves participants’ SOP submission. Participants have a maximum of three exam attempts and must wait seven (7) days after each unsuccessful attempt.
