Description

Join HSA1 for the sail to St. Michaels, Maryland.

St. Michaels is a treasure on Maryland's fabled Eastern Shore. This vintage harbor port, whose origins date from the birth of the colonies, is nestled on the beautiful Miles River and is a collage of handsome churches, manicured colonial, federal and Victorian homes, historic maritime heritage, diverse artistic talents and pleasant southern culture. It is also the proud cradle and repository of our maritime history at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.

Carl, Sue and Greg will host a pot luck dinner at Chew Street Park in St Michaels at 5PM on Saturday evening. The Park is located at the far west end of West Chew Street.

BYOB (adult and soda, water, etc.) and please bring an item to share:

A - F - Side or Salad
G - R - Main Dish
S - Z - Appetizer

The club will bring dessert and plates, etc.

We will sponsor two rafts. On the Miles River side, we provide ready access to our members from the middle and northern Bay. Our Commodore, Captain Greg Guthman of the SV Stargazer will captain the northern location. Given the holding conditions in the St. Michaels Harbor and the Miles River, you may want to secure a slip. There are slips at St Michaels Marina, Harbor Inn and Marina, and the Higgins Yacht Yard as well as the slips at the Maritime Museum if you are a member.

On the south, join Raft Captain Carl Reitz of the SV Windrose in San Domingo Creek. This creek is accessible for our middle and southern Bay members. To get to San Domingo Creek, enter Broad Creek from the Choptank River and proceed north After the Broad Creek “4”, the route into Edge Creek and then San Domingo Creek winds. Honor all markers and beware of shoaling. Watch your depth sounder!

If you are on the San Domingo Creek side, you will either need a dinghy or have to coordinate with the Raft Captain for a ride. The Park is adjacent to the dinghy dock.

On the Miles River side, there is a water taxi available and it is a short stroll to the Park.

Remember, Raft Captains are available on Channel 78.
