Do I need to bring a partner to dance with?

No! Some dances don't require a partner, and for others, you can just dance with someone you meet at the dance. Square dancing is social and it's also common for people to switch partners every dance.

Do I need to know how to square dance?

Nope! Every dance is taught before the dance and the caller will lead everyone through the dance the whole time it's happening.

Can I get to the venue by bus or bike?

Yes, the main Durham Bus Station hub is right behind the venue-- there's also many bike paths near by including the American Tobacco Trail.

Do I need to buy 2 tickets if I want to go to the Family Square Dance and Big Square Dance?

Nope! One ticket will get you into both.

Who the heck is putting this event on?

Local musicians and dancers are collaborating with the Live at Bay 7 series to make this happen.

Is there parking nearby?

Yes, there is on-street parking or a garage right behind the American Tobacco Campus.

Is this going to be like that terrible square dancing I did in middle school?

No! It's fun and ridiculous and your whole face will hurt from smiling by the end.

Square dancing at Bay 7 in the American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham, NC(right next to the Lucky Strike water tower)

Family Square Dance, 5-6pm. Slower-paced, for kiddos and their adults. Expect lots of easy moves and a rice-crispy styled cake walk. Featuring music by The Hodge Podge String Band.

Big Square Dance, 7-9pm. Faster-paced, for anyone out for an adventure. Expect some easy moves, some silly moves, a good time for anyone, and a cake walk "for adults". Featuring music by The Lucky Strike Outs: Mike DeVito, Hasee Ciaccio, Vivian Leva, and Aaron Tacke. The caller will be Nancy Mamlin for both dances.

You can choose to pay for a $10, $15, or $20 ticket based on your personal financial situation and ability to support the local arts scene. Kids under 12 are free! One ticket will get you into both dances.

Full Steam will be selling beer at both dances and Queen Burger/Mellow Mushroom will be open if you wanna grab food beforehand.
