Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to square dance?

No! No experience is necessary to dance! The caller will teach each of the dances in detail.

I squared danced a couple of time in middle school gym class and it was terrible. Is this like that?

No! First, you are not being forced to dance. You can just come and watch if you want. Second, most things in middle school were terrible because you were going through puberty. This square dance is so much better than puberty!

Do I have to bring a partner?

No! People often switch partners every dance (even if they come with someone). Sometimes people switch partners multiple times a dance! It all depends on the dance being called.

Do you have to dance with someone of an opposite or different gender identity?

No! You can dance with whoever you want, regardless of gender identity.
