Kevin Hill has been a SQL Server DBA for 18 years, working with versions all the way back to 6.5.   And he still doesn't know everything!  Kevin has a passion for helping new people learn foundational concepts in order to start out right.

This class is designed for New or Non-DBAs struggling with SQL admin tasks, and having to Google things daily. I will teach you SQL Server fundamentals so that you will have confidence in:
• What makes up a SQL Server
• How a database is structured
• How to install and what to look out for
• Finding what you need in Management Studio
• SQL Security Basics
• How to create and manage backups
• How to create a database, 3 different ways
• Basic performance troubleshooting
• Picking a Disaster Recovery option for your environment
These are taught from a foundational standpoint, in simple to understand terms so that you can build on them with confidence.
My teaching is heavy on interaction, with examples from years of experience/mistakes. There will be a mix of slides and demos. I will skip many advanced features that are out of scope of a beginner class, as I don't want your head to explode!
Join me for the day and you will walk out with a strong grasp of SQL Admin basics!

FAQs
I'm a DBA with 2 years experience...is this class for me?
Probably not...but you're welcome to come anyway, for review/refreshing of things you may not always use.
 What's the refund policy?
None, since it is now a free class.
 Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, but your name must be on my registration list 
What about lunch...I'm already hungry!
There is an on-site cafeteria and local places to eat...you'll have an hour free :)
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
Sorry, no,  due to logistics with Microsoft facilities and security requirements
Do I need to bring a laptop?
Nope.  If you want to follow along as I install SQL 2016, you can...but this is completely unsupported by me.   There will not be hands-on labs...this is mostly discussion.  If you have a laptop with SQL Server on it, great...mess around with it while I teach :)
Why did you change from $50 to Free?
Because I love you! And because this is a bit of a "beta" test of a full day class for me.  Donations will be accepted and forwarded to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey victims...they need it more than I do :)
