  1. Teams consist of two players.
  2. Game goes to 300.

  4. The highest card flipped over determines first dealer and they may choose the Score Keeper.
  5. Dealer must offer the player to his/her right, the opportunity to cut the cards after they are shuffled and before they are dealt.
  6. A misdeal can be called for one of the following reasons: (a) Player was not dealt exactly 13 cards or (b)Player does not have any spades within the hand dealt.
  7. The first hand bids itself.
  8. If a team fails to win at least 4 books on the first hand, they automatically lose the game.
  9. After the first hand is played, the non-dealing team must bid first.
  10. The minimum bid per team is 4. Once each team has a written bid, teams up go up in bid, but not lower. Ex. 6 up to 7, but not 6 down to 5.
  11. “Gentleman’s Bid” or "Books Made" – Total bids for both teams combined must equal 11 or more. A total bid of 10 or less will require all players to “throw in” their hands to start a new deal. No points are awarded for a “thrown in” hand.
  12. “Blind”, “Nil” bids are not allowed.
  13. Table Talk or providing hints to a partner is strictly prohibited.
  14. A player cannot lead with a spade until spades have been broken.
  15. The highest card is the Big Joker, then the Little Joker, then Ace of Spades, etc.
  16. The deuce of diamonds and the deuce of hearts are to be removed from the deck before the game begins.
  17. Once a spade is played, it cannot be picked up. “A Spade Laid is A Spade Played.”
  18. Bidding and Winning 10 to 13 books = 200 ptsNot making the a bid of 10 books = Minus 100 pts
  19. Not reaching a team bid (set) = Minus (number of bid books)
  20. Reneging = Subtract 3 books from the total books won. If the number of books remaining is less than the number of books bid, the team is set and must score accordingly.
  21. If the team is set twice, the game is over.
  22. “Bags” are not to be included in the scoring. This is a “No Overs” game.
