Ask the Expert

Experienced gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions.

Preparing Your Plants

  • Please identify each plant with a label, and bring them ready to go, not needing division or extra containers.
  • If you know your plant is native or exotic, please add to the label. Including growth habit information is also very helpful (i.e.: shade, sun, approx. height, grows in clumps or spreads by runners, etc.).
  • Please do not bring any invasive plants, unlabeled plants, or plants with weeds still attached.
  • Remember to keep freshly dug plant material out of direct sun and keep roots moist until the swap.

Good Containers for Your Plants

  • Old plastic nursery pots
  • Yogurt cups with a hole
  • Paper or plastic milk cartons with top cut off and a hole
  • Egg cartons for groups of seedlings
  • Plastic grocery bags for freshly dug plants/plants with larger roots
  • Cardboard boxes for freshly dug larger plants
