SGS is a non-profit organization, in partnership with the Palm Harbor Library, dedicated to the teaching of modern and ethical genealogy research techniques with meetings, workshops, lectures, field trips, and other educational activities.  Our meetings are usually held on the fourth Saturday of each month, are member supported, but open to the public.

A Hybrid Genealogical Mini-Seminar: Two Live Presentations with Q&A and loads of great Door Prizes.

<h3>S﻿ession 1: <strong>Finding Maiden Names: Let Me Count the Ways </strong></h3><p>Who was she? Who were her people? This session with an extensive handout Paula presents myriad ways to determine what was Great Grandma Margaret’s maiden name. Clues and a checklist guide you in the search. Just because it was “hidden” after her marriage, doesn’t mean it can’t be discovered.</p>

<h3>S﻿ession 2: <strong>From Deeds to Dirt: Case Studies on Analyzing Research with Maps</strong></h3><p>Our ancestors existed in a time a a place.  Maps are one way to give the names and dates in our genealogical research more life, context, and excitement.  Where did they live?  What would they have seen?  How did they get around. Cari will examine various ways researchers can use deeds and maps to trace their ancestors and their research.</p>

<strong>Paula Stuart-Warren</strong> is an internationally recognized genealogical educator, researcher, and consultant focusing on unusual resources, manuscripts, methodology, and analyzing records. She also specializes in Native American research, the WPA, and railroad records. She has spent extensive research time at libraries, courthouses, libraries, state archives, historical societies, and at locations of the U.S. National Archives. 
Paula is currently a coordinator and instructor for the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh and has presented courses for Research Write Connect Academy, Ancestry Academy, Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, Family Tree University, and continues to present virtual seminars and webinars across the U.S. and in Canada. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Genealogical Societies, of the Minnesota Genealogical Society, a former officer of the Association of Professional Genealogists, and has been a Board-Certified Genealogist since 1988. 
Paula is descended from eight ancestral countries and has researched family connections across the U.S. and Canada. She currently has her own educational website and blog at<a href="http://genealogybypaula.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> http://genealogybypaula.com</a> and is enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and continuing education.
<strong>Cari A Taplin</strong> is related to Roy Rogers. Or at least that’s what her family told her. As a result, finding her true heritage has been her focus since the year 2000. She is a native of Wood County, Ohio but now lives in Longmont, Colorado. 
Cari holds the Certified Genealogist® credential and has served in a wide variety of volunteer and leadership positions for state, local, and national societies. As the owner of <em>GenealogyPANTS</em>, she provides speaking services. She also lends help and shares her expertise as an administrator on the highly popular Facebook Group “The Genealogy Squad.” Cari currently works for Ancestry ProGenealogists. 
Cari’s personal research focuses on midwestern and Great Lakes states. When she’s not working on her genealogy, she is a wife, and a mother of two young adults. (https://genealogypants.com/about-cari-taplin/)
