Our Why

Why do we fundraise? Why are we asking you to give generously and join us in supporting Cornerspring's misson? High-quality education and care is one of the best investments a community can make. For more than 20 years, we have nurtured the development of hundreds of children and supported their families. From the early days on the corner of Congress and Spring Street, our school has been commited to keeping this transformative experience accessible to families in our community. We need your support.

Using an approach based in the methods developed by educational visionary Maria Montessori, Cornerspring Montessori School is committed to individualized education, allowing children freedom to develop at their own pace. We strive to satisfy a child’s need to know, to belong, to feel safe and secure, and to develop their self-esteem. Our nurturing staff is Montessori-trained, and our school accepts all children as individuals and does not discriminate in any way based on race, ethnic background, gender, disability, or financial position.

Waldo County faces an acute childcare crisis (not enough care to meet demand; full-time and flexible childcare remains unaffordable for most families). 35% of our current families depend on scholarship to attend. And our board of trustees prioritizes the goal of increasing teacher salaries and benefits for greater staff retention. Cornerspring is doing everything it can to provide excellent education and care that is affordable for our families in our community.
