Colossians: Paul's Practical Theology

Theology, the study of God, is often hought to be more for the “ivory towers” of academic institutions rather than something that is applicable to every day life. Yet as Rev. Kim will demonstrate, the letter to the Colossians, while full of rich theology, is also deeply practical, informing the every day life of God’s people even today.

Our Conference

Each Spring we invite a notable theologian or pastor from our tradition to share with us about a Biblical topic in which they are interested and have studied. Our conference incorporates a sweet blend of singing, praying, eating and receiving the Word of God taught by our year's speaker. All scheduled meals are already incorporated into the cost of admission.

Past Speakers include: Michael Horton, Mark Futado, Robert Godfrey, Bryan Chappell, and Jonny Gibson.

Our Speaker: Rev Joel Kim

Rev. Joel Kim is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America, and has taught New Testament at Westminster Seminary California since 2005 and in 2017 was appointed as the fourth president of WSC. He previously taught at Calvin Theological Seminary and International Theological Seminary in Los Angeles, as well as in Taiwan and Indonesia. When he was nine years of age, he and his family moved from South Korea to Southern California, where he would learn English and retain fluency in Korean.

Among other publications, he co-edited Always Reformed: Essays in Honor of W. Robert Godfrey (Westminster Seminary California, 2012). Rev. Kim’s doctoral studies in historical theology were with the noted scholar Professor Richard A. Muller at Calvin Theological Seminary.

Rev. Kim and his wife, Sharon, have a daughter and a son; the family resides in Escondido and attends New Life Presbyterian Church.
