About this event

Welcome to DePaul University and to Chicago!

All new international students must attend the two-day International Student Orientation on Wednesday March 27 & Thursday March 28.

International Student Orientation is mandatory for all new international students (F-1 & J-1 visa holders). This includes all academic programs and levels (including undergraduate, graduate and transfer students).

What to Expect:

  • Choose to attend in-person or by Zoom. We strongly recommend that you attend orientation in person to have the best experience and receive the most support services we can offer you.
  • All students who register for orientation will receive access to the recorded Zoom sessions afterwards.
  • We have many sessions planned throughout the two days on topics we think you need to know and understand to be successful in your first weeks at DePaul
  • Examples of Sessions: Immigration Basics, How to Access Your Health Insurance, How to Pay Your Bills, Take Care DePaul & Culture Shock
  • The full agenda will be posted in the pre-arrival orientation for international students on D2L (http://d2l.depaul.edu)

How to Prepare:

  • Mark your calendar and plan to arrive in Chicago so you can attend all of orientation.
  • Complete the online D2L pre-arrival orientation on Academic Success and Immigration Basics in before orientation. You will have access to D2L about 10 weeks before the start of your first term at DePaul (and after your I-20 or DS 2019 has been issued).
  • Check your DePaul email address regularly for updates about your student and immigration status and important instructions.

Other DePaul Orientation Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Students: If you are an incoming undergraduate student you will also need to attend Premiere or Transition DePaul orientation. Please register via your Next Steps Checklist in the Blue Demon Domain.
  • Graduate & College of Law Students: Some academic programs may offer college specific orientation events. Please follow instructions you receive from your academic unit and attend those sessions in addition to attending this international student orientation. Law students have a unique term start date and orientation. Please refer to communication received from the College of Law for more information.
  • ELA and Conditionally Admitted Students: Students issued an ELA I-20 (including conditionally admitted students) will only attend the ELA orientation. For more information and for registration information please contact the English Language Academy.
