About this event

What happens when Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, is called out of the place where all fictional characters abide - the Intraverse- and confronts a post-modernist academic lecturing on him? Hilarity and Hi-Jinx! Spirit of the Dane is Tony Cronin's hysterical comedy playing at Santa Monica Playhouse for three weeks only in June!

The Play:

Rose Darling, famous academic, begins her lecture on the "New" Hamlet and, because of all the intellectual energy focused on Shakespeare's most famous character, the old, original Hamlet appears on stage and confronts the post-modern lecturer. However, since Hamlet is an actor/director in the play, he can't help but crave the greatest speeches from Shakespeare's other plays and, by doing so, calls Lady MacBeth to the stage and the two of them argue about their true nature, the way they have been changed by the newer versions of their plays, and finally realize that their tales are not about them. While Spirit of the Dane will delight Shakespeare aficionados, it appeals to all audiences who enjoy good fun, great humor, and poignant themes.

The Venue:

Performed by a stellar cast under the direction of the author, Spirit of the Dane will be performed downtown Santa Monica, just a block from the and two blocks from the restaurants on Ocean Ave and the spectacular sunsets over the Santa Monica Bay. Make a night of it and enjoy live, professional theatre, fine food, and the gorgeous ambience of Santa Monica in the evening!
