Spinning on a Support Spindle

The Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. was created in 1948 as a non-profit educational organization to promote interest in handweaving. Today, the Guild offers education in a wide range of fiber processes and techniques, including weaving, felting, spinning, basketry, knitting, and dyeing. Guild members are from the Cincinnati metropolitan area and surrounding communities, as well as from Kentucky and Indiana.Members range in experience from beginners to professionals. All benefit from the Guild's priorities: education through classes, workshops, programs, study groups; sharing information and fiber techniques with other members and community groups; and promoting and supporting local fiber producers and businesses.After 50 years of meeting in various churches throughout Greater Cincinnati, the Guild has its own home at 4870 Gray Road in Spring Grove Village.

Learn to spin different fibers into beautiful yarn using a variety of spindles and wheels.

<h1>Spinning on a Support Spindle</h1><h3>Saturday, October 21, 9:30am - 12:30pm</h3><h3>Instructor: Pat Maley</h3>$40 for the classClass limit: 6Material fees. $5 payable to the instructorLevel: All levels of expertise and interest welcome.Support spindles are used for cotton, down fibers like cashmere, yak, camel and bison. They are also used for very fine silk and wool yarns. You will learn the drafting and twisting techniques used with several types of small support spindles as well as the large Navajo type support spindle.Supplies to Bring:<ul><li>An UNBREAKABLE bowl about 2-3 inches in diameter. </li><li>Any SUPPORT spindle that you already have. (A variety of spindles will be available to use in class).</li><li>$5 materials fee. Cash or Check only.</li></ul>Problems registering? Contact the instructor, Pat Maley at masterspinner1@gmail.com.Pat has been spinning and weaving since the late 1960’s. She has been certified by Handweavers Guild of America as a Master Spinner, having completed both levels of the program. She frequently demonstrates spinning, weaving and dyeing at historical venues and pioneer festivals. She has been teaching all types of spinning at the Weaver’s Guild since the late 1980’s.Depending on the <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/covid-by-county.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CDC guidelines</a> for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
