About this event

Colony Woodstock Presents: Spellbinder Orchestra in the Garden!

Join us for an evening of live music on our outdoor main stage!

Spellbinder Orchestra is a blend of original folk music with elements of rock, swing, classical and Americana. With intricate arrangements, the music moves from rousing and joyful to thoughtful and dreamy. Shows are often lively with a touch of the theatrical. With roots in San Francisco, the group is now primarily based in the Hudson Valley. The line-up includes cello, ukulele, guitar, banjo, harmonica and vocals plus a rotating cast on upright bass, percussion and violin.

The daughter of rock drummer, Dave Getz, original drummer of Big Brother & The Holding Co. and Nancy Baysinger, one of the first female recording engineers in the San Francisco bay area, bandleader Alzara developed an early passion for music. As a social worker and therapist by day, she is curious about how people heal, or don't, finding inspiration in the uncensored mythical realm of the human psyche.

Core members include cellist Cornelia Logan, a Hudson Valley native, who has played with Mamalama, Free River band, and is a regular player at Earth Opera, in addition to Woodstock's own rising singer-songwriter, Chris O'Driscol, on acoustic guitar, vocals and banjo. Upright bassist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Joe Pierog of The Library band keeps a mean rhythm and adds infectious energy. You may also catch rotating violinist Kate Hudson of Big Brother & the Holding casting spells on electric violin. Spellbinder Orchestra's East members are known for their strong vocals and delicious harmonies.
