Rhythmic language is an ancient path for uniting body and spirit, idea and intuition, humanity and nature. This workshop will teach writers of all genres to connect with five basic inner rhythms, each of which has its own personality and characteristics, in order to deepen your understanding of language and of yourself, and to channel the primal power of rhythm into your words. Through a series of targeted speaking, listening, performance, and writing exercises, you will discover a repertoire of linguistic patterns and construct your own unique, inspiring rhythmic fingerprint.

About the Instructor: Annie Finch is an award-winning poet, writer, speaker, performer, and teaching artist. Her six books of poetry include Eve, Calendars, Among the Goddesses, and Spells: New and Selected Poems. Her poems have appeared in The Paris Review, Poetry, The New York Times, and The Penguin Book of Twentieth-Century American Poetry as well as onstage at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Carnegie Hall. Her influential books about poetry include anthologies, an essay collection, and the poetry-writing guide A Poet’s Craft: A Comprehensive Guide to Making and Sharing Your Poetry (U. Of Michigan Press). She earned a BA from Yale and Ph.D from Stanford, has taught widely in universities, and has offered her workshops on Rhythm’s Magic Language at retreat centers including A Room of Her Own, Haystack School of Crafts, and the Garrison Institute. She is also the editor of Choice Words, the first major literary anthology about abortion.
