Dr. Micah E. Johnson is a professor, scientist, and award-winning actor. His research and creative works focus on childhood trauma, mental health, and social justice. Dr. Johnson has published over 25 scientific articles and two books. He received four million dollars in research grants from the National Institutes of Health. He is the recipient of the 2023 Outstanding Research Award, the 2023 Community Peacebuilder of the Year Award from the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding, and the 2024 Outstanding Mentor Award from the McKnight Foundation. His work has been cited by the New York Times, ESPN, Senator Bernie Sanders, Charlamagne Tha God, and others. He has worked on over 50 capital and felony cases throughout the United States. Dr. Johnson is the writer and performer of the captivating one-person show titled Never Had a Friend, which has captivated audiences across the United States. As a lifelong hip-hop enthusiast, he worked at the legendary Southern gangster rap record label Slip-N-Slide Records, which produced multiplatinum recording artists, including Trina, Tick Daddy, Rick Ross, Plies, Pitbull, and others. Dr. Johnson’s show fuses hip-hop, theatre, and education to foster compassion, community, and healing.

Event Description

The is event is part of a multi-medium collection of artistic works that discuss trauma, homelessness, and the capacity for art and positive relationships to foster resilience. It will be an epic event!

Purpose

The purpose of this collection is to foster support for the 2.5 million children who experience homelessness in the U.S. each year; promote art as a method to help folks heal from traumatic experiences and empower marginalized voices; and launch a targeted performance tour and eventually distribute the piece on a major media platform.
