Choosing the right fabric – or materials that behave in certain ways you’re after, in certain conditions- that can be a little harder.

Join us for a 90-minute class & swatch book workshop that will bring you closer to the fabrics you love, sending you home with a trio of evergreen reference materials (1 paperback and 2 swatch books of your creation) to support your projects and bolster your shopping capacity for a lifetime.


Class highlights include:

  • Refreshing your basic vocabulary around fabric to effectively navigate the world of textiles, especially differences between:
    -fiber & construction
    -stretch, give and extension
    -jacquards, print patterns & brocades
    -rayon vs silk vs acetate vs cotton
  • Meeting all the most common fabrics bought and sold in the Garment District, including their names, fibers and common variations
  • Applying material learned by building 2 Swatch Books(specific fabrics your choice) for reference:
    -One for the 5 categories of Weight, expressed in one Body
    -One for the 4 categories of Body, expressed at one Weight
