Please join TXSLAPS and the Strauss Center for a panel discussion featuring distinguished space industry experts!

On Tuesday, March 1st 2022, the Texas Space Law and Policy Society (TXSLAPS) and the Strauss Center for International Security and Law will host a Space Career Panel featuring speakers working in space law and policy. This panel is tailored to students who want to learn more about space law and policy and young professionals seeking career advice in the field. It is a hybrid event that will take place on Zoom and at the University of Texas School of Law in room TNH 2.123 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. CT. Light refreshments will be served. Prior to joining NASA, he served as Brumley Senior Fellow in the Space Security, Safety, and Sustainability program at the Strauss Center for International Security and Law, as well as President of the Texas Space Law and Policy Society. Dan is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and licensed to practice in the state of Texas.Idris MotiwalaIdris Motiwala is General Counsel for Firefly Aerospace, an Austin-based developer of orbital launch vehicles for the small-to-medium satellite market. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Law and joined Firefly after a few years at a litigation boutique. He focuses on general corporate compliance, contracting, intellectual property rights, export compliance, industrial security rules and regulations, and launch service industry transactional work. His academic work focuses on the intersection of space regulatory policy and commercial interests, with a forthcoming paper on utilizing corporate-nonprofit partnerships to increase non-traditional educational opportunities for students looking to gain experience in the NewSpace industry. He is further researching how intellectual property law applies to the private exploration of outer space. He currently lives in Austin, TX with his wife and three children. Josh WolnyJosh Wolny is a Foreign Affairs Officer with the U.S. Department of State&#x27;s Office of Space Affairs and a graduate of George Washington University&#x27;s Space Policy Institute. Before joining the State Department, Josh worked at the space-policy non-governmental organization Secure World Foundation and was a middle school science teacher.Makena YoungMakena Young is an associate fellow with the Aerospace Security Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Her research interests include international collaboration, space security, and orbital debris. Prior to joining CSIS, Ms. Young worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an aerospace engineer, focusing on automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast certification and integration in small aircraft. She holds a B.S. in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Purdue University with minors in international relations and environmental engineering.
